5 Things To Do with Kids this January!

Looking for something to do with the family?

The holiday excitement may be over but yes… the kids are still filled with energy! Take a family trip to Historic Smithville for a day filled with treats and fun.

things to do in Historic Smithville

  • Stay warm with Hot Chocolate w. whipped cream from The Colonial Inn

Nothing quite beats a warm hot chocolate on a cold winter day. Spice up your traditional hot cocoa with an added shot of flavor, some popular choices are raspberry, chocolate mint, and caramel. And of course, whipped cream! The Colonial Inn serves as a 30 room Bed and Breakfast nestled in Historic Smithville, but also has a delicious coffee house attached! Grab a warm drink and take a walk through the village to see the beautiful lights and decorations.

  • Watch the magical light show on the lake until January 6th

If there wasn’t enough time to get to the Holiday Light Show on the lake before the holidays, or you love it as much as we do, it is still going on! The light show on the lake will run everyday 5:30pm- 8:30pm until January 6th. Stand outside and watch all the Christmas lights dance through Lake Meone to your favorite holiday songs. The show goes on rain or shine, and can be seen from a few of the stores as well! Grab a slice of pizza from Costello’s or some Ice Cream from scoops and sit inside to watch the lights dance around.

  • Have playtime in the Antique Arcades

We know the kids have tons of built up holiday energy, so a great idea  to fill their day is to bring them to the Antique Arcade and let it all out. There are 3 Arcades in Smithville that are both indoors and warm! Let them ride the fire truck and race car with our quarter rides, or race on a motorcycle against a friend. The whole family can get in on some games of ski ball too! There’s also candy pick up games, and slower quarter rides for the littler ones.

  • Get a new toy from the Smithville Toy Market

Nothing keeps the kiddies occupied more than toys! The Toy Market in the village has tons of interesting toys and games for the kids to play with! Take your time looking around while the kids play in their interactive shop! Make sure you stay updated on their website for interactive workshops, classes, and arts and crafts throughout the year .

  • Fill a mini bag of candy at Sweet Things

More candy is a good thing!! Stop by Sweet Things and grab a bag to fill to the brim with sour patch kids, Swedish fish and root beer barrels. Sweet Things also has a full kids candy section that has candy from back in the day to now.
