Mayfest at Historical Smithville offers an abundance of family fun! On May 18th and 19th, from 10am-5pm there will be more than 100 juried crafters and vendors, an international food court, children’s activities, nonprofit organizations and live entertainment.
If you arrive by 9:30am, the crafters will be ready to go, which allows you to experience a one on one with the vendors, and you will beat the crowds!
Feeling a little hungry? Stroll on over to the international food court where you will find just about anything to satisfy your taste buds! Starting off with a dozen steamed clams was an easy decision, but the next craving I endured wasn’t so simple. Do I want pulled pork, shrimp kabobs, a gyro or an Angus burger with a side of butterfly fries? Due to the large variety of food, making a decision can be tough but don’t forget to save some room for dessert! The funnel cake is a must-have! If you want to avoid the lines, take your lunch break around 11-11:30am. After you order, you can enjoy the beautiful day as well as your lunch on one of our picnic benches!
Are you ready for a little fun? So are we! Head over to the paddle boats where you can take your time gliding across the lake at your leisure. Not to mention, the paddle boats are great exercise to work off all that yummy food. If you’re not in the mood to paddle, the carousel is a great ride for you and your family! This old-fashioned carousel will bring back memories as well as create new ones with your children. Lastly, don’t forget to ride the train! The train is a great way to scope out the shops in the Village Greene as you plot your next move, shopping!
As if all of the crafters and vendors are not enough, the Smithville Village offers over 40 unique shoppes. Each shoppe offers something different! Can’t decide which stores to visit? Stop by all 60! It’s just too hard to pick and choose!
As many as 12,000 people visit Mayfest each day. Our biggest tip is to book a reservation at the Colonial Inn Bed and Breakfast, which is located right on the festival grounds. You will be guaranteed a quiet and quaint retreat, a short trip to rest after a fun filled day and best of all… no lines to use the bathrooms!
If you’re looking for a fun-filled day, Mayfest is certainly the place for you. Once the festivities start to wind down, the crowds get thinner and the musicians start packing up, you can head for our free shuttle bus which will take you back to your car or to Fred and Ethel’s for dinner. The shuttle bus, which runs from 9:30am-5:30pm allows for parking in a location nearby to help avoid traffic.
As you sit on the bus with all of your found treasures on your lap, it will dawn on you: You can come back tomorrow.
